Slate-Lite is made from layered stone. Colour variations between individual sheets, quartz veins running through the stone, natural cracks or slight chipping may occur. This is not a defect, but rather a characteristic of the real natural stone surface and what makes every Slate-Lite stone sheet truly unique.
Our regular Slates generally have a slightly softer stone surface and stand out for their richness of colour, as well as constantly changing patterns and textures.
Mica slates usually have a somewhat rougher surface with more uniform patterns. A special visual highlight is the shimmering effect created by the natural quartzite content within the stone.
Limestones impress with a smoother surface and relatively uniform patterns and textures.
Sandstones are characterised by a slightly rough, somewhat grainy surface, including slight differences in height and, in some cases, smaller raised areas with a greater overall thickness.
Marbles have a naturally split surface with pronounced veining and raised textures. Continuously changing patterns and partial structures with a greater overall thickness create a striking overall appearance.

In principle, any light source can be used for backlighting Translucent – the key factor is even illumination for a clean lighting effect.
The easiest solution is a high-performance LED panel. Alternatively, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs or LED strips can also be used; in these cases, a diffuser or frosted glass panel placed between the light source and Translucent helps to improve light distribution.
A sufficient distance from the light source (approx. 6 cm) also ensures optimal light diffusion. Depending on whether warm white, cool white or RGB LEDs are used, different lighting moods can be created – from cosy to modern or colourful.
The basic installation process for Translucent involves four simple steps:
- Lay Translucent completely flat and decide on the order and arrangement in advance, as the lighting effect may vary
- Optionally apply an impregnation or sealer depending on the area of use (in wet areas, ideally after cutting and bonding)
- Prepare the substrate and the back of the sheet so they are free from dust and grease, then apply a suitable adhesive, such as Translucent Crystal Clear, evenly and without air bubbles using a smooth trowel
- Position the stone sheet and press it down firmly; if required, bond it to glass or acrylic as a backing and plan the backlighting accordingly
